I am going to preempt this post by
acknowledging that this is a really touchy subject. And then
I'm going to allay some of the unrest by telling you now that you
can open projects made in previous versions of The Print Shop in
version 3.0. Yes, this means projects created in The Print
Shop 21, 22 or 23, (and even projects made in PrintMaster 17 or 18)
can be opened in The Print Shop 3.0.
The only thing I'm going to say about
Backwards Compatibility is that it's really REALLY hard.
We've had two development teams working on it non-stop for almost
three years and when it's finished it's going to be about 85%
compatible. There are lots of reasons why it's really
technically hard, but we don't need to go into all the details.
For those of you who have been begging
us to figure it out, please give your thanks to Craig, our rock
star programmer who cracked the code. Craig figured out how
to open a version of The Print Shop 23 within The Print Shop 3.0,
convert the project and then place it in The Print Shop 3.0 (like I
said, it's hard). There are a couple of things that won't
transfer perfectly - headlines will become images that can't be
modified, mail merge won't transfer, items may shift a bit.
But those are things you can easily recreate with the new tools in
The Print Shop 3.0.
Ok, I know that if you bought The
Print Shop 2.0 you may still be upset that projects weren't
compatible in the past. I worked with the sales team to get
you a really REALLY big discount on version 3.0. Please don't
share this with all of your friends or post it on the internet, or
I'll likely get in trouble and we'll have to take it down.
But here it is, a code that you can use on Broderbund.com for 15%
off of any version of The Print Shop 3.0: TPSBLOG. This code
is good from July 15 - December 31, 2011.
Let the comments begin.
